Prior to beginning her teaching career, Principal Vance was an active duty Air Force member, trained as a medical administrative specialist, from 1988 until 1996. While stationed in Tokyo, Japan she taught conversational English to businessmen and their children. This experience led her in the direction to begin coursework in elementary education.
While living in Alaska, Principal Vance taught kindergarten and first, fourth and sixth grade. When her family relocated to New Hampshire, she taught multi-age ¾ in Nashua for five years, then looped from fourth to fifth grade for the next six years.
